In a friendly atmosphere, the Newrest Athens team successfully carried out on Sunday, January 29, the 1st tree planting action, at the “ARTEMIS” location in mount Ymittos, after the 2020 fires had destroyed most of the trees of one of Athens’ most important oxygen sources.
The action was organized with the cooperation of the Byron Forest & Natural Environment Protection Center and the Department of Civil Protection of the Byron Municipality.
The participation was great with a group of 80 participants, employees with their families, planting more than 200 saplings typical of the flora of Ymittos, such as sparta, kotsupias, carobs and pines. The process was challenging, but the participants were rewarded by seeing at the end the little plants they watered with love and eager to see them grow and develop into a small forest.
The tree planting was followed by a presentation by the Voluntary Firefighters about fire protection at home as well as about the procedures for intervention in forest fires, essential information for every citizen. This way, the Newrest team gained valuable knowledge that may serve them in the future.
Finally, the day ended with a picnic in the Ymittos forest that gave all participants the opportunity to relax and discuss the exciting events of the day. The company’s cooperation with the group of volunteer firefighters and Civil Protection of Byron is ongoing since Newrest will provide complimentary meals for the firefighting team during the summer 2023 period when the needs of surveillance and firefighting personnel are increased.
The participants renewed their rendezvous in nature for the next Environmental Social Responsibility action, which is one of the most important Pillars of the Newrest Group’s CSR Charter along with the Social Responsibility Pillar towards the company’s employees.
