Newrest Hellas supports “Boroume” in the fight against food waste

With a strong sense of social responsibility, Newrest Hellas has made a donation to the non-profit organization Boroume, reinforcing its efforts to reduce food waste and combat food insecurity. This contribution is a tangible demonstration of the company’s commitment to initiatives that generate meaningful social and environmental impact.

Boroume’s work is vital, as it rescues and offers more than 50,000 portions of food every day to people in need, through a wide network of volunteers and social welfare organizations across the country. Since its establishment in 2012, the organization has managed to save and distribute over 105 million portions of food, providing support to hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens. At the same time, the recovery of food that would otherwise go to waste has resulted in a major environmental relief, preventing the emission of more than 275 million kilograms of CO₂eq into the atmosphere.

Newrest Hellas acknowledges that food waste is one of the greatest challenges of our time. According to international studies, roughly one third of all food produced globally ends up being wasted, while millions of people continue to suffer from inadequate nutrition. Against this backdrop, organizations such as Boroume emerge as crucial pillars of both social solidarity and environmental sustainability.

This donation is part of Newrest Hellas’ broader CSR strategy and reflects the company’s commitment to supporting initiatives that align with the values of sustainability, solidarity, and respect for people and the environment.
